It’s been a while since I wrote a blog and i’m going to try my best to keep up with it. It gets my brain working and lets me reflect on my work a bit. So I hope you enjoy, if not my writing then my photos.
Last month I went home to Kailua Kona for a week. My parents celebrated 25 years of marriage and my mom planned a surprise vow renewal for my dad. She started planning this quite a few months in advance and asked if I would be able to take time off work to be there, and of course I said yes. So, along with the vow renewal, my dad was surprised with both of my brothers and myself being there for the event. It was such a great night and so nice to see so many faces that I don’t often get to see.
The rest of the week was full of visiting with family and friends, eating at all my favorite places, and being in the ocean and sun as much as I could. Going home is always a great time and it’s even better when its in the middle of the winter. But, at the end of my trips, I am usually pretty ready to come back. This trip, my grandma and aunt were visiting as well, so they were using my room and my brothers room, so both of my brothers and I were in the living room for the week. It was so nice having so much family there, but I was very ready to come home to my bed after a week on the couch.
Nearly every morning we woke up at 5 to go surfing. It was like we were kids again. Some of my favorite memories are waking up early and going to Waipio for a sunrise surf session. I usually wouldn’t surf, but my brothers would and I would always take photos. This is what got me into photography in the first place. I would borrow my dads camera and take photos for hours while my brothers surfed.
It’s always hard leaving home but I also have an amazing new home to come back to in Whistler. It makes me appreciate where I came from so much more.
