I met Scotty and Dana when I was about 11 years old. They use to spend lots of time with my brother and I when we were growing up and have been the most amazing role models we could of asked for. As we got older we started spending a little less time together; I moved away for school and they started there family. But, that didn’t change anything, they are the kind of people that you can just pick up where you left off. When they told me they were having there first baby, Vienna, I was so excited and happy for them. When Vienna was born, they called me while they were still in the hospital and asked if I could come and take some photos. That was about two and a half years ago and is still one of my favorite shoots. It is such a privilege to be invited to photograph such an amazing time for a family. That was my first “fresh 48” shoot.
When I heard they were having another baby, again I was so happy. We talked about me being there again, I didn’t know if it was going to be possible, but I told them that I would try my best to be there. As January rolled around I realized that the due date was getting close. Dana messaged me asking if I would be there, and I unfortunately did not think it would be possible to leave on such short notice. We chatted about it a bit and they offered to fly me back home to be there to take photos again, and of course I couldn’t say no. So, about a week and a half before her due date, I booked my flight home.
I was not there for the fresh 48 unfortunately, Ruby was ready to be in the world and was born a few days before I got there. My dad went to the hospital for me to take a few photos, and he did a really great job.
I was still there in her first week, and we had a great few hours together…
